NEXT EVENT: Saturday, June 20, 2015
TIME: Noon to 1:30 pm PDT
Join Depth Psychology Alliance for an exciting inquiry into the field of depth psychology in the second episode of our ongoing live webinar series and panel discussion, "What is Depth Psychology—Now and in the Future?"
This exclusive event aims explore depth psychology and its implications in the modern world and includes the opportunity for a concurrent live text chat on Depth Alliance and audio Q & A and discussion for all participants! Let's talk about it! |
|
|
Some questions for reflection and discussion include:
- Is there value to defining depth psychology...or does it defy definition altogether...?
- Is there a need to re-vision depth psychology and is that even possible?
- How has the history of DP led us to where we are? Who are the pioneers that are pushing the boundaries and how are they doing it?
- What might depth psychology as a movement look like and what would be the benefit?
- How might Depth Alliance be more of an activist community that can take depth psychology "to the streets"?
- What does taking DP to the streets even mean, and what might it look like?
- What does it mean to follow depth psychology as a vocation?
- What can DP do to meet the deepest soul stirrings of the individual who is called to individuation?
- How can we collaborate more in the community and share more opportunities to live our individual and collective passions?
|

About Depth Psychology
If you find yourself regarding this web page, you likely already have some unique concept of what depth psychology is and why it is meaningful and relevant in the modern world.
Depth psychologist, educator, and Depth Psychology Alliance boardmember, Craig Chalquist Ph.D., notes that depth psychology, from the German Tiefenpsychologie, was coined by Swiss psychiatrist Eugen Bleuler to refer to “psychoanalytic approaches to therapy and research that take the unconscious into account.” The term now generally refers to the ongoing development of theories and therapies pioneered by Pierre Janet, William James, Sigmund Freud, and CG Jung (www.terrapsych.com). |
The unconscious reveals itself to us through dreams, art, nature and story; through somatic urges, bodily symptoms and events taking place in the world around us. It is revealed in patterns, symbols, archetypes, and mythological forms.
As Jung wrote, “The decisive question for man is: Is he related to something infinite or not? That is the telling question of his life. Only if we know that the thing which truly matters is the infinite can we avoid fixing our interest upon futilities and upon all kinds of goals which are not of real importance. . . . In the final analysis, we count for something only because of the essential we embody, and if we do not embody that, life is wasted” (Memories, Dreams, Reflections, 1989, p. 325) |
