Greetings, and Thoughts On Commencing a New Year...
2012 is upon us, and with it, so many archetypal changes, implications, and connotations. It's hard to miss the attention to the end of the Mayan calendar and all the associated predictions, and there's so much going on in global markets, economic challenges, the ongoing Occupy movement and cultural shifts.
Climate change, human damage to the planet, natural catastrophes and unusual whether phenomena, and the loss of species continues at an ever-greater pace. When you look at how much changed in 2011, it's impossible to imagine we won't be seeing more of the same in 2012. Sometimes its hard to think about how we will maintain a center--both personally and culturally--in the midst of so much chaos.
Meanwhile, I am touched and amazed by the growth of the depth community and the intense pull many of us seem to be experiencing to gather together in community to understand and withstand the ongoing changes. I am thrilled by the activity in the Alliance with so many new members and participants in the Book Club and other new programs promoting learning and growth, and heartened by the tremendous outpouring of generosity evidenced during the recent call for volunteers to be on the reading committee for Depth Insights magazine. Additionally, it's wonderful to consider the new and increasing opportunities for those of us called to depth and Jungian psychology to meet face-to-face, in person and in community, to offer each other support, learning, and shared experience.
I encourage each of you will take some time in coming months to consider your role in community and in holding a center as we continue our work to create a container for a changing world. If you haven't checked in with Depth Psychology Alliance lately, take a look now and see what's calling to you. There is great need in the world for those who are willing to step and "see"....
In soul,
Bonnie Bright

FREE SPECIAL ONLINE STUDY GROUP with Astrologer Kathleen Burt: Astrology, The Rising Sign, and the Second Half of Life Starts February 1
Alliance member and long-time Astrologer, Kathleen Burt, is offering a free Online Study Group in February based on her book Beyond the Mask: The Rising Sign and the Second Half of Life (Pt. 1). |
|
"Beyond the Mask illustrates how midlife urgings bring forth new cycles of death and rebirth. Antiquated identities and roles die, old 'masks' must be pealed away before we can discover a new path. Kathleen Burt addresses specifically how each of the Rising Sign patterns guides us into new life and fresh experiences"--Monika Wikman, Jungian analyst
An astrologer in private practice for 30 years, Kathleen Burt has been a Fulbright scholar to India and completed her graduate work in South Asian history at the University of Chicago. It was the early 1980s when Kathleen Burt stayed up all night reading C. G. Jung's biography, Memories, Dreams, Reflections. Through Friends of Jung San Diego, Kathleen took a mask making workshop and found such a strong connection between the Mask and the astrological persona, or Rising Sign she eventually wrote the book Beyond the Mask: The Rising Sign and the Second Half of Life, the text for the free online study group on Depth Psychology Alliance for February 2012.
Kathleen is also the renowned author of Archetypes of the Zodiac, about Sun Signs from the perspectives of mythology, psychology, and esoteric astrology. In Feburary, Kathleen will guide us through the ways in which astrology can help us better understand ourselves and world around us and to recognize our resources and talents and live a more fulfilling life. Kathleen will be offering a 60-minute teleseminar on February 29 at 8pm ET, also available to listen at a later date. |

VIDEO INTERVIEW: The Cycles of Life
with Jungian Analyst & February Alliance Book Club Author Erel Shalit
Depth Psych Alliance is pleased to welcome Dr. Erel Shalit, a Jungian psychoanalyst in Ra'anana, Israel, and Academic Director of the Jungian Analytical Psychotherapy Program at Bar Ilan University as the featured author for the February Book Club. |
Dr. Shalit's book, The Cycle of Life: Themes and Tales of the Journey explores crucial archetypal images of the journey and the stages of life, illustrated by dreams, myths and tales. The sense of meaning along one’s individual journey through life is exemplified by personal stories and clinical vignettes. Jung also speaks about the Cycles of life. On our journey through the stages (or ages) of our life, we encounter the archetypal essence of each phase, and are challenged by the essence of meaning that we are requested to deal with on our journey. Click here to read more about the February book
Articles from Dr. Shalit have appeared in Quadrant, The Jung Journal: Psyche and Culture, Spring Journal, Political Psychology, Clinical Supervisor, Round Table Review, Jung Page, Midstream, and other professional and cultural journals. He is on the editorial board of Quadrant. Other recent works include Requiem: A Tale of Exile and Return (2010), Enemy, Cripple & Beggar: Shadows in the Hero’s Path (2008; the book was a nominee for the 2009 Gradiva Award for Best Theoretical Book, National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis). FIRST ALLIANCE LOCAL CHAPTER MEET-UP Set for March 23: "Jung, Crop Circles & the Re-Emergence of the Archetypal Feminine"
>>> Click here to REGISTER for this event |
Meet other members of Depth Psychology Alliance in the San Francisco Bay Area for an evening of conversation, refreshments, and an engaging presentation by Gary Bobroff on "Jung, Crop Circles & the Re-Emergence of the Archetypal Feminine."
Crop circles have been a source of deepening wonder for many over the course of time. I spent a few days myself tramping through wheatfields in England last July to experience the phenomenon and am profoundly intrigued. I can't wait to see Gary's presentation.
|
Here's what Frank Beurskens, President, Analytical Psychology Society of Western New York, had to say about Gary's recent presentation for the Jung Society in Buffalo:
"Gary Bobroff delivered an engaging lecture and follow up workshop that inspired and challenged believers and skeptics alike. Gary's in-depth research from both a scientific and Jungian perspective, successfully bridged preconceived notions to access the unconscious realm; a feat seldom executed in such an authentic manner. As an organization, we were concerned that the topic would limit participation, yet the program generated record turn out for both lecture and workshop. Gary is a gifted presenter whose presence and perspective is destined to grow in popularity. I highly recommend Gary to any organization willing to stretch and explore the shadow in a creative and innovative manner." |
